No, congruent angles would make the two triangles similar not congruent. However, the sides of both triangles would be proportional.
KTA22 - December 1, 2008 at 9:53 pm
I agree with KTA22. Just because a two triangles have congruent angles, doesn’t mean they have congruent sides. That would make them congruent but with the information given in the question, you can know they are similar but you can’t assume they are congruent.
ultimatefrisbeechick - December 2, 2008 at 3:23 pm
They could be congruent but you dont know if they are or not, to find out if they are they either have to have two similar sides along with the congruent angles, or they have have another set of congruent angles and a set of congruent sides.
Raye - December 2, 2008 at 3:29 pm
The triangles could be, but just by knowing that they have corresponding congruent angles isn’t enough to determine it.
Hey O'Dell - December 2, 2008 at 3:34 pm
no, because If two angles on one triangle are equal, respectively, to two angles on another triangle, then the triangles are similar, but not necessarily congruent.
Critter - December 2, 2008 at 3:38 pm
no, just because the angles are the same the the sides may be differnet lengths, the sides will be proportional
humptydumpty - December 4, 2008 at 12:31 am
I agree with KTA22, about the triangles being similar
humptydumpty - December 4, 2008 at 12:33 am
no, even if the angles are the same, the sides may be different lengths, the sides will be proportional.
:)csb2012 - December 4, 2008 at 12:55 pm
You can’t tell from this alone. The triangles could just be similar but not congruent.
RHOGH - December 4, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Not neccessarily. The triangles could be congruent but this information does not prove that they are. The triangles could be similar with proportional sides.
tennischamp - December 4, 2008 at 3:51 pm
um no you really dont have enough information to determine that if you had a corresponding side that was congruent yes.
Wimbledon - December 4, 2008 at 3:53 pm
No they are not because they could have different side lengths. They however would be similar.
Anonymous - December 4, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Thats me^^
Fscene8 - December 4, 2008 at 3:55 pm
You can’t just assume that the 2 triangles are congruent because the sides might be different and the two triangles would be just similar. You have to have at least one pair of congruent sides to prove that the triangles are congruent.
coolbreeze - December 4, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Sounds like everyone got it, but yea, you cant assume that the sides would be the same length just based on congruent angles. Good start though
Buttons - December 5, 2008 at 12:52 am
And also, I agree with the other bloggers. It could very well be a similar triangle.
Buttons - December 5, 2008 at 12:53 am
you can’t tell if they are congruent by just looking at them you actually have to do the math and figure it out
:)csb2012 - December 5, 2008 at 12:48 pm
you can tell if two triangles are congruent by using the theorem thingys!! ASA in this case would be best because you know two angles so you would just have to measure the sides. However, you could also use SSS or SAS.
Fscene8 - December 5, 2008 at 3:26 pm
No, because you have to have two sides of corresponding angels to be able to say the triangles are congruent. If there is only one side of congruent angles, then the triangles are similar, but not congruent.
Twain - December 5, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I agree with Fscene8 that you can use the theorem that we learned earlier in the year to determine congruency
Hey O' Dell - December 5, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Two congruent angles just prove similarity, not congruency. And I don’t care if any of this is spelled wrong, so don’t bother correcting me.
I heart Jessica Alba - December 5, 2008 at 3:46 pm
I agree with KTA22 about the sides being proportional if the angles are congruent. But the triangles, still, could not be proven congruent
RHOGH - December 7, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I agree that theorms can prove congruency, but congruent, corresponding angles alone can’t.
